Travel & tourism retreat experience in Belize-Skype Issues

December 22nd, 2012

Keep in touch with home while traveling in Belize.

Belize is full of tourism incentives.  From fitness and yoga retreats to birdwatching, water sports, ecological beauties and respite. Tourism is good.  English speaking population is growing and growing as English is taught in schools widely through Belize. The country’s luxury “resort and spa” industry is filled with luxurious, boutique Inns.  Just as many resort and spas are in the mountain top ecological havens as lined along the beach.  Despite the great travel incentives through Belize, the country’s internet freedoms are limited. The Belizean government does not allow Skype.  Belize Telecommunications has concerns of lost revenue due to Belizean use of Skype for world-wide, and even local, calling. So they restrict specific websites and data ports.

Despite the problem of countrywide restriction of Skype’s usage, three months I successfully Skyped in Belize multiple times for extended periods of time. HOW? A VPN. A VPN is a secure firewall with changing IP Address, as necessary.  It’s not tracked for a period of time, and then changes.  So I hear….

My concern toward this is the ease of restriction government has to control Skype’s expansion and also the inability for people in Belize to utilize technology readily available and materialistically invested in.

Oh well-I just wanted to talk to my husband at home and see his smiling face while I was on a gorgeous mountain practicing yoga nearly all day every day.  After 2 days of attempting while not knowing the restrictions on Skype across the board in this country, I was told, “it doesn’t always work well.”  Well, you are not kidding!!

Answer to my problems and solution to communicating with my husband in Kentucky is HotSpot Shield! Skped worked in Belize with this free VPN.  It bypasses the firewalls. All it took was the free version.  Once you are using this Application, just remember to turn it off anytime you are not using Skype in Belize (or other restricted site I suppose) or it impairs the browser’s ability to go to other sites.

I hope this helps another Belize traveler.   In respect to encouraging tourism, disabling the Skype communication service is really a poor move and I hope technological notes like this will not always be necessary.

Til then, happy traveling in Belize!  Home of awesome Mayan ruins, gorgeous waterfalls, vibrant culture and dining, wildlife out of this world and relaxing afternoons or adventure excursions. Fit Bodies, Inc. creates teaching vacations for yoga instructors at very nice resorts in Belize such as Hidden Valley Inn.  Check it out and professionals can sign up for the Fit Bodies, Inc. teaching vacation program. Boosting Joy and Finding Balance This Holiday Season

December 14th, 2012

Boosting Joy and Finding Balance This Holiday Season

by Cincinnati yogini and Fit Bodies guest instructor, Ms. Lauren Lichenstein

During the holidays, the energetic space and charge that is before us is incredibly big and bright! Sometimes that space is so vast and open armed, we perceive that we are unable to fill those big shoes that the holiday offers to us (resulting in stress, anxiety, moodiness). How do we balance the abundance of energy, celebration, peace, and harmonious experience that is energetically within us and externally outside of us? Here are a few tips to keep you grounded and stable in preparation for the joyous flight which unites us with the flock of peace doves that adorn the universal holiday spirit.

To Begin
To begin your day, practice a breathing exercise that balances the right and left side of the body. If you shower in the morning, take a towel and place of few drops of lunar-energized lavender oil on it. Sit in the shower and place your thumb and ring finger over the nose. Plug the left nostril while you sip in air through the right nostril. Do this slowly and feel the pause at the top of the breath. Switch nostrils to exhale and inhale from the same side. Follow this ten to twenty rounds of breath. You will be able to notice if you are exhaling more than you are inhaling or vice versa, which will lead to the natural, self-healing power to bring balance what you are giving and receiving. It’s a beautiful way to begin the day.

Keep a clear, open mind. Don’t get hung on how you think the holidays are supposed to feel, look, and move. By letting go of expectations, you can be readily available to live presently and fully. Keep the holiday spirit alive by letting it run free instead of containing it in one perfectly wrapped gift box that your mind has manufactured. Thankfully, every day is different, every holiday is different, and these diverse experiences create the rich tapestry that we call life-Decorate it well!

YOU-nique Traditions
Traditions are so important when bringing friends and family together. But why not try something new? In addition to the beautiful comforts of the thread that mends the holidays together year after year, inspire a fresh perspective of togetherness. Instead of a gift exchange, ask to give the energy to a charitable organization such as a toy drive or spend time together by volunteering at a soup kitchen. Maybe give the oven a break and prepare a new and exciting raw dessert for the family to try. A little adventure inserted into tradition can bring you all closer than you realize. By unleashing a new experience, you will drench yourselves in new celebratory expressions. There’s some holiday spirit!!

Let white lights of joy invade your holiday season!
Let white lights of joy invade your holiday season!

Lastly, there is no perfect offering, there is no perfect gift. Everything has a crack in it, everyone a flaw; and that is how our Light gets in and out. Be bright and send positive vibrations to each other no matter how near or far you are during the holiday season. One drop of rain resonates into the ocean, just as one drop of your positivity resonates into the universal spirit. That will direct all of us to find the true balance of joyous and harmonious holiday spirit.

Favorite aspects of the Hidden Valley Inn, from a guest yoga teacher’s perspective:

-Currently the only non-beachfront location accepting Fit Bodies, Inc. yoga teachers.

-Hidden Valley Inn sits within over 7,000 acres of a wildlife reserve in northern Maya Mountains of Belize. This is a part of the Pine Mountain Ridge Forest Reserve, which encompasses over 100,000 acres. There are over 90 miles of groomed and well-marked hiking trails to explore! Plus the many excursion opportunities off-site.

-Each guest is asked about dietary considerations. They have wonderful cuisine for all diners!

-Sixteen waterfalls on property to explore and enjoy! Some are big, some small! All providing another area to lookout from or bridge to cross into further hiking adventure.

-Yoga platforms are all next to running water or a waterfall for a lovely, ambient experience for teachers and students alike.

-Five wonderful areas for yoga classes to be held. From the canopy covered OM Shanti platform to the Awat Balam space at the top of Tiger Creek falls. Naturally lovely, sturdy space for classes! Three areas of walking distance, from 2 min stroll from your cottage to 5-7 minute hike. Other two locations are further hike, but only 5-minute ride in the 4×4 Inn taxi! Awat Balam is a 5-minute taxi ride and well worth the effort as it rests on sturdy, multi-level platform at the top of Tiger Creek Falls. As a favorite spot for birders and yogis alike, it is across from King Vulture lookout. Quite the sites to be seen!
For over ten years, Hidden Valley Inn has offered guests levels of adventure and reprise catered to each individual. Naturally as a birding, adventure and ancient culture exploring destination, the Inn has perfect locations for yoga classes and luxury accommodations, amenities, service and dining for the most discerning of travelers.

This location is ideal for yoga teachers looking for a unique and endearing teaching vacation experience away from a beach. Though for great swimming around the Inn, visit Rio Falls during the Caracol excursion.

Fit Bodies, Inc. books teaching vacation dates up to thirteen months in advance at Hidden Valley Inn and other locations. Many 2013 high season travel dates still available for yoga teachers. Also yoga teachers who offer Zumba would be a nice teaching vacation, too! All guest instructors sign up and create teaching vacation bookings at FitnessProTravel.com-home of the Fit Bodies, Inc. teaching vacation.

Yoga teachers at Hidden Valley Inn

September 3rd, 2012

by Lisa Snowden

I’ve been at Hidden Valley Inn since only Friday night, yet already I have too much to say for a single post. Here is an overview of my impression and information learned thus far.

The drive from BZE is airport to Hidden Valley is 2.5-3 hours and over an hour of this is dirt road with bumps along the way. This is the first indication of heading to a very secluded resort area! There is a option to fly into Hidden Valley Inn’s private airstrip, then only a 15 minute drive to the Inn- but then you miss out on driving through diverse communities, seeing Belize agriculture and learning about the area. Rick, my driver, was wonderful to talk to during the drive and I learned about Belize farming, immigration, laws, and family life for people of Belize.

Arriving to the Inn releases my body from the long travel day and immediately Arleni and Raul greet me. There were others checking in upon my arrival so Arleni offered me a short, relaxing tour and iced lemongrass tea while we had a conversation. She then escorted me to my room where my luggage was waiting for me. The cottages are very lovely and it’s amenities help to make the resort luxurious. For guest’s pleasure is a closet with hangers, shelves, drawers, umbrellas, a safe big enough for laptops, bathrobe and luggage rack. The bed is a queen size, two lounge chairs, desk, phone, a fireplace and the tile floor feels nice on the feet. Comfortable bed with plenty of pillows. My cottage is number three (out of twelve), or named Hummingbird. All the cottages are named after birds as bird watching draws some of the resort’s guests. The bathroom has all the nice items so don’t worry about packing your shampoo, conditioner and body washes. They also have lotion and Avon’s Skin So Soft to use. I’ve already enjoyed the bathtub and shower has fine pressure for hair washing. Daily housekeeping and turn down service, water and homemade cookies are jarred in the room to remind us this quaint little inn is at luxury standards. All the water is from a local spring and UV treated so it’s delicious and safe to drink even from the tap. There is complimentary wifi throughout the main house and cottages. I’ll probably have a single article dedicated to the cuisine as it’s top notch and they cater to any dietary needs. The staff is truly here to serve the guests and I encourage gratuities for them to show the appreciation. Everyone is so friendly I already know most everyone’s name. They are never short staffed and no one seems to mind the days with little occupancy.

Did I tell you I have lots to say?! This resort is very unique to other properties hosting Fit Bodies, Inc. teachers so I certainly want to be as detailed as possible.

Yesterday was my first teaching day and my students were a mother and daughter enjoying a single day at the Inn. The teaching schedule will definitely fluctuate based of the number of guests and their yoga class desires.  Last week I’m not sure the teacher had a single class to teach as the occupancy only consisted of the teacher and her companion. The resort does not mind this and Fit Bodies goal with Hidden Valley Inn is to establish a consistent yoga program guests and potential guest alike can count on. You will never teach more than two classes per day. The high season here is November through February or March. September may be the slowest month. This is a PERFECT location to host a retreat or conduct teacher training sessions.

As I sit here typing this I enjoy sitting in the shade, poolside, with a little breeze and listening to the waterfall and gentle music playing from the lounge. I sip the coffee grown organically and roasted on site. Delicious! Tomorrow a group of 14 will be arriving and I look forward to discovering and encouraging their interest in yoga classes. In the meantime I see reading, yoga practice and an afternoon hike in my day’s plan.

Till next time-

Namaste, Lisa

Fit Bodies, Inc. Changes coming

November 28th, 2011

Fit Bodies, Inc and Fitness Pro Travel will have a brand new look in a few short weeks. We have been working constantly for the last few years trying to make our site easy for you to maneuver. The social network thread is working well and we love seeing your comments and assistance to others who have questions. Keep it up!

Fit Bodies, Inc. has grown as you are all noticing. We went from 20 resorts a couple years ago to over 45 with more coming on board soon. The fast growth has perpetuated us toward a bigger better website to afford all the rapidly changing functions needed to handle this expansion. All of our brainstorming of better viewing, easier selection, and more options for choosing a teaching vacation are finally coming together.

You will meet the new site very soon. We are shooting for a January 1st debut. It will appear very similar but better. Some of the changes will be noticeable and some will be subtle. One of the changes I want to mention has to do with the memberships. Currently we have BASIC, TRAVEL, MEDALLION and ENTERPRISE. Those will remain but the changes will be within the memberships themselves. BASIC will still exist as a free account. You will be able to access everything you do now with one exception. There will be a limited number of resorts available to book with this membership. You will always be able to access 15 opportunities that will change on a regular basis. In order to have access to all of the resorts you will need to upgrade to the TRAVEL membership. There are many other benefits that you are afforded with this membership including a referral bonus each time someone you send to us becomes a member of our community. By referring people to our site you will be able to make up the $27 membership fee before you know it just by sending your professional friends to us so THEY can experience theses amazing teaching vacations. The Medallion and Enterprise members also have access to all of the resorts with added amenities and abilities but the TRAVEL membership is all you need to be able to book any resort at any time and earn money too. You can request a check or we can use it as a credit for your next teaching vacation.

Other amenities are afforded our Travel Members such as a reduced change fee and access to more of the networking capabilities on the site.

Email me at suzelle@fitbodiesinc.com with any questions you have about these changes. I am excited about the new site, can’t wait to hear what you think!!

Happy Travels

Suzelle

Book now for 2012 Availability in January, February, March and April.

October 26th, 2011

Wow!  We’re about to swing into full effect of busy season!  If you have not yet secured 2012 Jan., Feb., March and April teaching vacations, now is the time.  Do not wait until the snow falls- we still have great selections available now. Below I’ve provided my professional insight into searching for great teaching vacations for early 2012.  Login to your fitnessprotravel.com account to check real time booking availability based on the fitness and sports specialties you offer.

On to discuss January, February, March and April 2012 vacation spots.  First, we have new resorts with open availability.  Check out Grand Palladium Vallarta for tennis AND group fitness position weekly.  Newest and most extravagant is Peter Island, not to be missed!

I have some inside insight on the most luxurious destination spots still available.

Number 1-Puerto Vallarta! Some of our most fabulous resorts, newer to the lineup are yet to be publicly discovered by our pros.  For example, Puerto Vallarta has three resorts currently booking. I feel the PVR Dreams Resorts, Villamagna and Puerto Vallarta, respectively, are among the most luxurious of the Dreams brand. Our newest resort on board, Palladium Vallarta Resort & Spa, is also a PVR resort catering to families and couples alike.  Opening in April and booking now is Now Amber Vallarta Bay and Secrets Vallarta Bay (adult only).  Fit Bodies looks forward to preparing you for wonderful teaching vacas at five Puerto Vallarta Resorts!!

Huatulco! In addition the action is happening in Huatulco!  We’ve had Dreams Huatulco on the family resort menu for over a year and the up and coming adult resort is Secrets Huatulco, booking now and opening December 1, 2011.  Secrets Huatulco official site has all the juicy details.  One hint-Every room is an ocean view suite! There are many flight options available to HUX for Canadians and also through Houston and Mexico City.  Read more about HUX flight options.

Number 2 advice-More family resorts still have openings than exclusively adult only resorts.  Adults, you may need to consider family resorts.  Many family resorts do a wonderful job of catering to couples, singles and even provide adult only areas and dining options.   Family resorts are social and fun plus today they do not lack luxury at all.  I was very impressed with Now Jade.  With their huge beach, great service, large rooms I had a great time plus I think every dinner was childfree.

So check out the Dreams and Now Resorts for prime Cancun weeks in early 2012.

Number 3 advice-Families book your spring break and President’s holiday now! March availability still exists but it won’t for long.

So we do have wonderful travel openings still.  Once the northern U.S. sees snow fall the opportunities go fast.  The staff at Fit Bodies, Inc. and Fitnessprotravel.com are available to assist you with your teaching vacation anytime.

OH, by the way, Number 4 advice- We’re here to help because we don’t want your winter fitness to turn into this picture:

Fun fitness shoveling snow? I dont think so!
